Member Requirements

Young Man Member Requirements

To maintain good standing each year, your young man is required to complete :
     1) 10 direct philanthropic hours and
     2) Attend 3 out of 5 meetings (grade level or All-League, typically Sundays) and
     3) Attend one cultural event (grade level or All-League or individual)

The year is from May 1 through April 30. 

Philanthropic hours may be earned in any endeavor where the young men are giving volunteer service to either a NLYM, Inc. organized philanthropic event and/or any established 501(c)(3) philanthropic organization, school, church or community based group. 

Mother Member Requirements

To maintain good standing each year, mothers will be expected to:
     1)  Attend 3 out of 5 Regular Mothers' Meetings per year (typically Monday evenings) with their goal being two-fold:
          a)  to support their sons and
          b) to educate with guest speakers.

     2) And serve either on one or more of the following positions each year:
          a) Chapter Level Committee
          b) Grade Level Position per son
          c) Board of Directors

Awards will be given at the end of the school year for additional philanthropy service above the required 10 hours.

The award levels are as follows:
    Ensign -             10 hours
    Lieutenant -       25 hours
    Commander -     50 hours
    Captain -            75 hours
    Admiral -          100 hours
    Anchor Award - Member earning the most philanthropic service hours during the year (100 hour minimum) 
    Senior Service -   Graduating senior who has earned a minimum of 110 Philanthropic hours [including 10 required direct hours] during each of his years in NLYM.
    Helmsman Leadership - This award is given to the young man in each grade level who is in good standing and who combines a good balance of philanthropy, leadership and protocol activities during his year in NLYM.

We are also a certifying organization for the President's Volunteer Service Award.
